Rent a Car

To really make the most of your trip to Hawaii, you’ll probably find it helpful to rent a car. This way, you can really get out there and experience the island. Make sure you drive safely and carefully, and stay away from the horn. Hawaiian’s don’t find beeping the horn for anything other than an emergency OK. There’s public transport too though.

Know When to Go

Hawaii has great weather all year round, but the most popular time to go is between December and April. If you want your holiday there to be cheaper and less crowded with tourists, go either between April-June or September- mid December. You’ll save money and the island won’t be too full of tourists.

Know Where to Eat

There are all kinds of delicious food in Hawaii. There’s Japanese food with a Hawaiian twist, to name just one delicacy over there. Honolulu Magazine has a restaurant guide, so take a look at that for the best dining experiences. Your luxury Kauai escape, Koloa Landing Resort could give you further advice on where to eat.

Be Aware of Natural Disasters

Although you shouldn’t have cause to worry, Hawaii has been affected by natural disasters in the past. You should know what to do should a situation like this arise.

What to Pack

When planning, you’ll be thinking of what’s best to pack. It goes without saying that you should bring a swimsuit of some sort, but you may also want to bring something warmer along with you just in case. While Hawaii doesn’t often get chilly, it’s a possibility.

Stay Safe in the Water

Never swim anywhere where there isn’t a lifeguard. Accidents can happen in the water here; shark attacks have been known. Most commonly in places where people were swimming with nobody watching them. Never swim alone and only swim in safe places.

Tip Generously

Hawaii can be an expensive place to live, and many of the people rely on their tips. Tip generously either by working out a percentage or giving what you feel they deserve.

Take Your Shoes Off

It’s almost tradition in Hawaii to take off your shoes before you go into somebody’s home. Unless somebody states that you can keep your shoes on, always take them off.

Don’t Approach Animals on the Beach

Animals may sometimes be seen on the beach, but you shouldn’t approach them. Many of these animals are almost endangered, and some can even be a bit nasty. Keep your distance from them.

Be Polite and Aware

Hawaii is in the USA, so if somebody asks you where you’re from, don’t be ignorant and say ‘the USA’. Say the specific state. Avoid beeping the horn as mentioned before.

Above all else, make sure you have a fantastic time!
